You’ve probably heard of Garcinia Cambogia, a weight loss supplement that has the media in an uproar. Garcinia Cambogia (GC) is a nickname for an Indonesian plant called Garcinia gummi-gutta. It looks like a little green pumpkin. This exotic fruit became famous when Doctor Oz featured it on his show in 2012, promoting it as a breakthrough weight loss product. Despite the celebrity buzz, there are many misleading offers and scams out there. Keep reading for important information about five GC trial offers.
GCXT’s main claim to fame is that they use only 100% pure GC extract for their pills. The capsules are made in an FDA and GMP certified facility. GCXT’s all-natural veggie pills contain 60% hydroxycitric acid (HCA), the component extracted from the fruit’s rind that is said to promote weight loss. HCA’s effect on the body is tri-fold: it suppresses appetite, prevents fat from being produced by blocking the release of glucose, and stimulates the brain to produce serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical that elevates mood, increases alertness, and promotes overall health.
Visit the GCXT website to take advantage of their FREE trial. Just make sure to read the fine print. The offer includes a 30-day supply of 1,000mg pills (60 capsules). GCXT says the recommended before-each-meal dosage is 500-1,000mg. At time of purchase, all you pay is shipping. However, if you don’t cancel within 14 days of the purchase date, you will incur a purchase fee of $89.52, which, conveniently, is the same price as one bottle. Without canceling, you will also be automatically enrolled in their auto-ship program, receiving a bottle each month for $89.52. If you do the math, one capsule costs about $1.50.
SLIM Garcinia Cambogia
SLIM claims 100% customer satisfaction and cites two important facts: increased production of serotonin improves sleep and helps emotional eaters curb hunger cravings. Like GCXT, SLIM contains 60% HCA and is 100% natural. The capsules are produced in a GNP certified facility.
Have you ever heard that stress can make you gain weight? SLIM highlights the fact that HCA can help manage the stress hormone cortisol. HCA can also help if you struggle with cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins, serum leptin, or triglycerides.
SLIM offers a FREE trial that provides the customer with a sample bottle (30-day supply; 60 capsules). I could not find the mg amount on the website. At time of purchase, all you pay is shipping. However, the disclaimer reveals that if you do not cancel within 14 days of the purchase date, you will be charged the full price – $89.95 – and be enrolled in SLIM’s home delivery service which sends you a new bottle each month at a cost of $89.95. Doing the math shows that each capsule costs about $1.50.
Calling its product “Mother Nature’s answer to weight loss,” PURE’s main selling point is that GC is a life-saver for emotional eaters. PURE states that their pills are produced in a “certified” facility, but does not mention FDA or GMP. PURE capsules contain 60% HCA.
Along with lots of diagrams, PURE cites an article in the Journal of Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism when explaining how the product works, lending credibility to the site. PURE’s FREE trial is similar to the two mentioned above. For just the price of shipping, you get a one-month supply (60 capsules). The website did not list the mg amount. The other sites put estimated shipping between $5 and $10. For this one, it was less than $2. If you cancel within 14 days of the purchase date, you won’t be charged the purchase fee of $89.95 and you won’t be enrolled in the auto-ship program. If you don’t cancel, you’ll receive a bottle each month at a cost of $89.95 per bottle. This puts the price per capsule at roughly $1.50.
ULTRA Garcinia Cambogia
ULTRA’s product is 100% pure and made in the USA. Despite their claim of 100% customer satisfaction, their website gave me red flags right off the bat. It was almost impossible to read through the site because a chat window with a discount on shipping and a link to attain a FREE bottle of Garcinia Cambogia kept popping up. Clicking “close” did nothing.
ULTRA’s FREE trial automatically enrolls you in their membership program, which sends you one bottle (60 pills) each month for $89.74. At the time of purchase, you will only pay shipping. ULTRA doesn’t mention a purchase fee and says that you can cancel at any time, but describes the “trial” period as a “14 day deferred billing plan.” Price per capsule is a little less than $1.50.
Whereas most GC products are advertised as a replacement for exercise, ULTRA states that both diet and exercise are absolutely necessary to achieve results. ULTRA is also the only pill out of the five reviewed that contains caffeine. At the bottom of the page, you find that ULTRA’s product has not been evaluated by the FDA. The website does, however, provide links to two PDFs detailing the results of clinical studies.
Garcinia Cambogia SELECT
SELECT is an “as seen on TV” brand that stands out from its competitors. One bottle gives you 90 capsules (500mg). SELECT’s formula contains only 50% HCA. SELECT’s website states that most GC products are low-quality and that 50% HCA is the highest concentration available. SELECT’s pills are 100% natural and made in a facility certified by the FDA and GMP. Reading through SELECT’s website, you will notice that they use the word “may” instead of “will” to be more scientifically accurate. For example: HCA “may reduce cravings.”
Perhaps the best benefit of HCA is that it halts the production of new fat while boosting your energy levels. In other words, it gives you the energy to work out and helps you burn off old fat without gaining new fat. SELECT does not offer a FREE trial. Instead, they are upfront about the cost of their product and offer three different packages:
- Buy 3 bottles, get 3 free. This package saves you 50% and costs $138.85. Price per capsule = about 25 cents.
- Buy 2 bottles, get 1 free. This package costs $92.63. Price per capsule = about 34 cents.
- Buy a single bottle for $46.34. Price per capsule = about 51 cents.
What did customers think?
The media tends to endorse and to talk trash about any and every diet pill, but individual reviews of GC are mostly positive. The most popular opinion is that GC works as a powerful appetite suppressant. However, you will still need to exercise and maintain a healthy diet to achieve your weight loss goals. Although not a “miracle pill,” GC is great for emotional eaters and people who frequently overeat. In regards to SELECT’s product:
- One woman says SELECT helped her lose the weight she gained during pregnancy and gives her the energy she needs to be an active mother.
- Another individual says that she tried this product because she was too busy to go to the gym. She reached her weight loss goal in two months.
The above five products are all very similar with the main difference being the validity of the companies. Personally, I am wary of companies that do not clearly list the mg amount of their pills on their website (ULTRA, PURE, and SLIM). Based on research and customer reviews, this is my advice: opt for the GCXT FREE trial and cancel it immediately after ordering. This way, you’ll get to test out a month’s supply for just the cost of shipping. If you decide the product works for you, purchase SELECT’s product, which is by far the most scientifically sound and legitimate company out of the five reviewed above – not to mention they have the best price!
